Forty Fort, PA

Forty Fort is a borough in Luzerne County with a population of 4,233 at the 2020 census.

The Wilkes-Barre Wyoming Valley Airport and the Susquehanna River dike are both located in Forty Fort.

Forty Fort is named after the forty settlers who came from Connecticut in 1770 and built a fort along the banks of the Susquehanna River.  A large rock on River St. at the corner of Fort St. marks the approximate spot where the fort stood.

Other points of historical interest include the Nathan Denison House, Forty Fort Cemetery, and the Old Meeting House. The area parks offer activities for children of all ages, including an Easter parade in the spring, a Halloween parade in the fall, and movies, music and basketball tournaments in the summer.  Sport facilities in Forty Fort include the Little League field and the Luzerne County Sports complex with soccer fields and open play areas. There is also a walking trail along the Susquehanna River levee.
